Emergency Housing

The Friends Emergency Housing Program helps end the cycle of homelessness for families. We provide an emergency shelter for families providing intensive, community-based case management and short-term housing, aftercare and outreach services for families at risk of future homelessness. Families are provided with the support, education and training to assist them in acquiring long-term skills and accessing resources to find and maintain permanent housing.

We accept families from throughout the state of New Hampshire. We seek to help every family we serve to find and keep stable and safe housing of their own. We provide homeless families with critical, temporary emergency housing, as well as support, education, training and skills that help position them to access critical resources.  We own a building, which houses eight families and provides office space for three staff members, serving families with support 365 days each year. We also have families on our continuum of care, who are former residents receiving case management support on an ongoing or as-needed basis. When families leave our shelter, we continue to assist them in overcoming barriers they encounter to ensure that they remain in long-term housing.

Friends Emergency Housing’s goal is to help every family served to find and maintain safe and stable housing opportunities. Short term goals include providing a safe, secure environment for families with children experiencing homelessness and addressing immediate needs such as food insecurity, medical needs, and identifying barriers and root causes of a family’s homelessness. We provide clients with pathways and skills that empower them to take charge of their lives more effectively, with the intention of breaking the cycle that led to their homelessness in the first place. These strengths-based skill building activities include resolving unmet medical and mental health needs, substance use recovery, budgeting, interview and resume skills, removing barriers to future housing, positive parenting classes, nutrition classes, and more. Adult clients work with the Case Manager to develop client-driven goals, aimed at the family obtaining and maintaining safe, stable housing for the long term.

A safe, consistent, predictable, and respectful environment that keeps families together as a unit sets the stage for success at achieving individualized goals.
