Children a Concord Christian Academy were treated to a reading by Susan Masters, Friends Foster Grandparent Program volunteer of ‘Groundhog Day’ by Gail Gibbons, complete with an appearance of a talking furry Phil, top hat, and groundhog-shaped cookies.
On Thursdays, Susan visits the 1st through 5th grade classrooms plus a combined group of the preschoolers and kindergarteners (pictured) to read a variety of books. Susan reads with enthusiasm, heart, knowledge & experience and states, “reading to the children is just so fulfilling because they learn from it … and have fun.”
Susan puts a great deal of thought and planning into her reading selection and enjoys the Skippyjon Jones series. Cinder Chicken is on the agenda for upcoming 'reading Thursday' on Valentine's Day.
Days following the Groundhog Day reading, Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County posted on their Facebook page that the 5th graders from Concord Christian Academy participated in Pope’s ‘Paws to Read Program’ by visiting the shelter and reading to homeless pets awaiting adoption. FGP Susan has accompanied the students their also to read to the shelter animals.
